The United States and China endured a prolonged period of tariff conflict. This trade war created a lot of overall tension. However, a potential improvement in their relationship is now anticipated through dialogue. US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to hold a meeting soon. Discussions about soybean trade and nuclear weapons could feature prominently during their encounter. Earlier, China had halted its purchases of American soybeans.

Trump Hopes for a Good Deal

A Bloomberg report confirmed that Trump spoke at a White House lunch on Tuesday, October 21. “I have a great relationship with President Xi Jinping,” Trump stated. He further expressed, “I hope I will be able to make a very good deal with him.”

Trump had previously imposed substantial tariffs on Chinese goods. In retaliation, China ceased buying soybeans from the U.S. China typically purchases about 50 percent of the American soybean supply. The halted purchases severely damaged American farmers. Trump is expected to address the crucial soybean trade issue during the upcoming meeting.

Focus on Arms Control and Global Issues

The control of nuclear weapons could also be a major discussion point between Trump and Xi. This issue is likely to prove significant in their meeting. Trump also mentioned the Ukraine conflict when speaking to reporters at the White House. Therefore, he might also raise the issue of Ukraine with President Jinping.
