The Telegraph reports that Washington has restored UK access to cutting-edge AI models from top developers like OpenAI and Anthropic, even before US safety checks are finished.

US Grants Britain Renewed Access to Latest AI Models
The United States has reopened Britain’s access to the newest artificial intelligence models from leading developers, including OpenAI and Anthropic. This comes even before American authorities finish reviewing those models. The British newspaper The Telegraph reported this development.
Earlier Restriction Sparked Concern
In late September, Politico reported that President Donald Trump’s administration had told OpenAI and Anthropic to hold back their newest AI models from Britain’s AI Safety Institute, known as AISI. The US wanted its own review completed first.
What The Telegraph’s Report Says
According to the outlet, the situation has now changed. The report states:
“The White House has restored the UK’s access to the newest AI models for safety testing. The UK AI Safety Institute (AISI) will now be able to access the newest models from American tech companies before their official release, which will allow British officials to conduct safety tests.”
Pressure From British Minister Led to Reversal
The Telegraph reports that Washington reconsidered its earlier decision following pressure from Kanishka Narayan, Britain’s minister for AI. His pushback appears to have driven US officials to loosen the restriction and restore UK access to these AI models.
