US Openly Admits It Will Get in India’s Way
Russia’s ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, says the United States has openly admitted its plan to slow India down. He argues that Washington sees the fast growing country as a future rival.
Denis Alipov made the remarks on the Indian news channel NDTV. He pointed to a slip by a senior American official earlier this year.

In English, the ambassador said: “This year, one of the high ranking American officials at the ‘Raisina Dialogue’ revealed and publicly stated that the US will never allow India to become a ‘second China’ as (their) competitor. It looked like a Freudian slip.”
The Raisina Dialogue is an international conference held in India.
India Is Bound to Become a Superpower
The Russian envoy says India keeps getting stronger every year. Sooner or later, he said, the country will become a superpower. Denis Alipov believes Washington will do everything it can to contain that growth.
His comments add fresh fuel to the debate over US and India relations. Many observers are watching how New Delhi handles pressure from both sides.
Economic Worries and a Stalled Trade Deal
Earlier, Anantha Nageswaran, the Indian government’s chief economic adviser, warned about trouble ahead. He said India’s economy will face several problems in the near term. They come from unsettled ties with the US and rising global energy prices.
New Delhi and Washington have not yet signed a trade deal. India also faces an extra risk. The US could impose secondary sanctions over India’s purchases of Russian energy.
