EAM S. Jaishankar Meets Vladimir Putin in Moscow; Discusses India-Russia Summit & Global Issues

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India around December 5, 2025, for the annual summit.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He briefed the President on the preparations for the upcoming annual India-Russia Summit. According to the state news agency TASS, Putin welcomed Jaishankar with a handshake. The meeting took place at the representative office in the Senate Palace in the Kremlin.

EAM Jaishankar’s Take on the Putin Meeting

Jaishankar expressed his honor after meeting President Putin in Moscow. He conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to the Russian President. The Foreign Minister confirmed that he updated Putin on the summit’s readiness. They also held discussions on regional and global developments. Jaishankar highly values Putin’s vision and guidance for strengthening their relationship.

Anticipation for Putin’s India Visit

A video released by the Kremlin showed Putin greeting Jaishankar. Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Joint Secretary Mayank Singh were also present. This high-level meeting precedes Putin’s proposed visit to India later this year. The Russian President is expected to arrive in India near December 5.

Detailed Talks with Russian Counterpart

Jaishankar previously engaged in extensive discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Monday. Before this, Jaishankar met President Putin with other heads of SCO member country delegations. The gathering included Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and other key representatives. Attendees included Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, Belarus Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, and several others. Representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan’s Deputy PM Ishaq Dar were also present. SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev also attended.

Meetings on the SCO Sidelines

Jaishankar also held separate meetings on the sidelines of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) event. He met with Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The EAM thanked Russian Prime Minister Mishustin for hosting the SCO Heads of Government meeting. He also praised the exemplary hospitality provided by the hosts.
