Iran Hands Washington Its Formal Reply to US Edits on Tehran’s Peace Plan

Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Monday that Tehran has officially delivered its response to several US-proposed amendments to Iran’s conflict-resolution proposal with Pakistan playing a crucial role as the diplomatic go-between in the Iran-US peace plan process.

Iran Formally Responds to Washington’s Changes in Its Peace Draft

Iran has officially handed Washington its reply to a set of US-proposed corrections to the Iran-US peace plan. The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed this on Monday, May 18. The development marks yet another active if cautious step in the fragile diplomatic exchange between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei announced the update at a press briefing. He said Tehran received a list of remarks and amendments from the US side despite Washington initially rejecting the Iranian peace proposal outright.

Pakistan Plays the Role of Diplomatic Bridge

“Despite the fact that [the US] directly stated that they reject this (Iranian) project, we received a number of remarks and adjustments through the Pakistani side. We reviewed the proposals and, as was announced yesterday, our point of view was conveyed to the American side,” Baghaei stated clearly at the briefing.

He further confirmed that Pakistan continues to serve as the official mediator between Tehran and Washington. The back-and-forth exchange however tense signals that the Iran-US peace plan dialogue remains alive and moving forward.
