Iran Makes Big Leap in Global Steel Sector

The World Steel Association’s newest data shows a major gain for Iran. The country has jumped three places in the global rankings. It is now the world’s seventh-largest steel producer. Mehr News Agency confirms this impressive upward movement.

October’s Production Boost

Iran manufactured 3.3 million tonnes of steel during October 2025. This production figure allowed it to reclaim the 7th spot, a position it held earlier this year. The monthly output marked a 12 per cent surge when compared to October 2024 production.

Year-to-Date Figures and Ranking Fluctuations

Official numbers show Iran produced an average of 25.4 million tonnes of steel from January to October 2025. Despite the October jump, this ten-month total is a minor one per cent drop from the same time last year. Iran’s global ranking shifted considerably in 2025. The nation was 7th in March, April, and May. It then dropped to 10th place in June, holding that rank until September. This October rebound cemented Iran among the upper tier of global steel producers.

Global and Regional Dominance

China and India kept their positions as the top two global steelmakers in October. Russia, Iran, and Brazil followed them respectively. The source notes that Iran still leads regional output. It accounts for most of the steel production in West Asia.
