Kyiv Targets Strategic Energy Hub for Second Time in a Week
A Ukrainian drone strike hit the Tuapse port on the Black Sea early Monday. This attack killed one person and caused massive fires at a key export terminal. This is the second time in a week that this strategic energy site has been hit.
Refinery Under Fire Once Again
The overnight drone wave targeted the Rosneft-owned Tuapse refinery. Firefighters had only recently put out flames from a previous strike last Thursday. This latest assault has once again crippled operations at the facility.
Damage Extends Beyond Oil Tanks
Telegram channels shared videos from witnesses showing oil storage tanks in flames. Local officials confirmed that a gas pipeline and a church sustained damage. Two schools in the area were also hit during the raid.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
“Fire crews and rescue services are currently engaged at every site,” Tuapse Mayor Sergei Boyko said. He noted that the strikes impacted several different spots across the export terminal. Emergency teams worked through the night to contain the blazes.
Satellite Images Confirm Massive Smoke Plume
NASA satellite images from Monday afternoon showed the extent of the damage. A thick plume of black smoke stretched for dozens of kilometers east of Tuapse. The visual evidence confirms the severity of the industrial fires.
Casualties Reported in Krasnodar Region
Governor Venyamin Kondratyev confirmed the human cost of the strike. He stated that one man died and another was injured. These casualties add to the growing toll of the ongoing border conflict.
Ukraine Confirms Strategic Hits
Ukraine’s military said Thursday it “struck infrastructure in Tuapse and two oil depots in annexed Crimea.” Local Russian authorities also reported a small oil spill in the Black Sea following that earlier attack.
The Economic Importance of Tuapse
The Rosneft refinery is a critical piece of Russian infrastructure. It processes 12 million metric tons of oil every year. It serves as a vital route for exporting naphtha, fuel oil, and diesel.
Russia Reports Massive Drone Interceptions
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it shot down 112 Ukrainian drones overnight. These intercepts occurred over the Black Sea and Crimea. Another drone strike in the Kursk region reportedly killed one more person.
Ukraine’s Strategy to Drain Kremlin Funds
Ukraine is currently increasing attacks on Russian energy sites. The goal is to stop the Kremlin from profiting from high oil prices. This campaign targets the financial backbone of the Russian war machine.
Zelensky Critical of Sanctions Waivers
President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the U.S. decision to renew a temporary sanctions waiver on Russian oil. He believes this move helps Russia stabilize its markets. Zelensky wants stricter economic pressure to end the war.
