Starlink is preparing to launch its high-speed satellite internet services in India by setting up gateway earth stations in cities like Mumbai, Noida, and others.

Elon Musk’s company is gearing up to enter the Indian market. His satellite internet venture, Starlink, may launch soon in India. According to media reports, Starlink plans to establish nine gateway earth stations throughout India.

The company will build its gateway earth stations in major cities. These cities include Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Lucknow. Starlink is famous for its very fast internet speed. Internet service will reach remote villages through Starlink. This service works even without a traditional mobile network.

What is the Company’s Strategy?

The Economic Times reports on Starlink’s strategy. The company applied for its initial satellite network (Gen 1 Satellite Constellation) approval. It aims to offer 600 Gigabits per second capacity internet service. The telecom department has provisionally allowed temporary spectrum use for a demo. This demo will help to conduct necessary security checks. The government allowed Starlink to import 100 user terminals. It also permitted only fixed satellite service testing.

Strict Government Oversight and Measures

The Indian government wants to prevent any misuse against citizens. Therefore, the government decided to maintain strict surveillance over Starlink. The company had requested bringing foreign technical experts for its earth stations. The government rejected this request completely. It stated only Indian citizens can operate the stations. This remains valid until security approval comes from the Home Ministry.

The government also clearly stated rules for the trial phase. Any collected data must be stored within India’s borders. Starlink must share its compliance report every 15 days. This report goes to the telecom department and Indian security agencies. However, the company cannot offer services to the general public during this trial.
