The month of December will keep taxpayers busy. They need to handle several essential income tax-related tasks. These include late return filings, TDS payments, and advance tax deposits. December 10

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the ITR filing date. It moved the deadline from October 31, 2025, to December 10, 2025. This extension applies to those who require their accounts to be audited. This decision came after persistent demand. Taxpayers, Chartered Accountants (CAs), and various professional bodies requested it. Returns filed by this date are considered on time. There will be no late fee or penalty imposed. Taxpayers filing after this date must pay a late fee. This falls under Section 234F of the Income Tax Act. The penalty can range from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000. It depends on income and the filing date.

December 15

You must upload Form 27C received in November 2025 by December 15. Government offices must also submit Form 24G. This is for TDS and TCS payments made without a challan. Another major task is paying the third installment of advance tax. This is for Assessment Year 2026–27. TDS certificates for tax deducted in October under Sections 194-IA, 194-IB, 194M, and 194S are also due. Stock exchanges must file Form 3BB. This covers client code modifications made in November.

December 30

Taxpayers have several key tax-related tasks due on December 30, 2025. Recognized associations must file their client code modification statement. This is for the month of November. Taxpayers who deducted TDS in November must submit the TDS challan-cum-statement. This ensures proper reporting and accounting for all monthly deductions. Also, you must submit Form 3CEAD if you are a resident constituent entity. This applies if you are part of an international group or a foreign company.

December 31

December 31, 2025, is the final date. It is for filing belated or revised Income Tax Returns. This is for Assessment Year 2025–26. This is your last chance if you missed the July-September ITR filing deadline. Overall, December is a crucial month for taxpayers. They must complete major tasks. These tasks involve ITR, TDS, and Advance Tax. Any mistake can lead to a penalty. You might receive a notice. Processing may also face delays.
