The Xiaomi 16 series, which will represent the company’s premium smartphone lineup, is expected to make its debut this month in China. Fresh live images of the most advanced model, tipped to arrive as the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max, have now been leaked online. These photos suggest that a notable feature from the Mi 11 Ultra could be reintroduced. The device seems to feature a secondary display on its rear, cleverly integrated within a large rectangular camera module that extends across the top half of the handset.

The leaked Xiaomi 16 Pro Max images first appeared on Chinese social platform Weibo before quickly spreading across X (previously Twitter). According to a post by tipster Kartikey Singh, the phone’s rear panel displays a visor-like structure covering its upper section. This large module is believed to house the triple-camera system and a secondary screen.

While the exact role of the extra display remains uncertain, Notebookcheck highlighted that the person holding the alleged Xiaomi 16 Pro Max is described as a “high-ranking” Xiaomi executive. This detail strengthens the credibility of the leak and minimizes chances of fake imagery. The Mi 11 Ultra previously used a screen borrowed from the Mi Band 5, designed as an always-on panel showing notifications, time, and date, while doubling as a rear selfie viewfinder.

Closer inspection of the leaked shots reveals two visible sensors inside the camera block, likely consisting of the primary shooter and a telephoto camera. A detailed image also confirms a third camera placed under the visor beside an LED flash. The photos reveal at least two color variants of the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max, including a subtle purple shade and a bright white option.

Speculation suggests the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max could launch in China between September 24 and September 26. Reports claim this will be the first device equipped with the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, also referred to as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Alongside the flagship chipset, the phone is expected to run on Xiaomi HyperOS 3, a new interface built upon Android 16.

The overall design of the Xiaomi 16 Pro series may take cues from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, particularly with its bold rectangular camera housing.

Leaked specifications indicate that the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max could sport a 2K flat OLED display and be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor. The camera configuration is rumored to include a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. Powering the device is a massive 7,000mAh battery. Other notable features may include support for 8K 30fps and 4K 120fps video recording, IP69 water and dust resistance, a metal frame design, and improved HDR support.
