India Rushes Aid to Cyclone-Hit Sri Lanka; PM Modi Assures All Possible Support

India is now assisting Sri Lanka following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwa. India launched “Operation Sagar Bandhu” for this purpose. The government sent necessary aid and relief materials to Sri Lanka on Friday. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi assured Sri Lanka of every possible help.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Statement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will offer further assistance to manage the situation. He shared his deepest condolences. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the people of Sri Lanka. They have lost loved ones due to Cyclone Ditwa,” he said. “I pray for the safety, comfort, and quick recovery of all affected families.”
Cyclone Ditwa Causes Major Damage
Cyclone Ditwa caused massive destruction across Sri Lanka. Official information was shared by the Sri Lankan government. It stated that 56 people have died due to landslides and floods. Over 43,900 people were affected by the severe weather. These individuals belong to 12,313 families. Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre recorded 46 fatalities in the last 72 hours.
The Sri Lankan government declared a public holiday on Friday. This excluded essential services due to the emergency situation.
Aid Delivered by INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri
India provided this assistance to its neighbor, Sri Lanka, using powerful warships. These were the INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri. These warships were also deployed to help the Sri Lankan Navy. They were stationed in Colombo on November 25-26. The Sri Lankan Navy had made a formal request for aircraft use.
India’s Defence Ministry confirmed the details. A formal request was made for aircraft from the INS Vikrant. This aid was for relief efforts after the storm hit the eastern Trincomalee area of Sri Lanka.
