Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, will represent India at an international peace summit in Egypt on Monday. The summit focuses on ending the Gaza conflict and promoting peace and stability across West Asia.
Invitation to Leaders
Egypt has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, sources said.
India’s Representation
Government sources confirmed Singh was selected to represent India, following Israel and Hamas agreeing to a US-brokered peace plan, which includes a ceasefire and the release of hostages from the October 2023 attacks.
Global Participation
More than 20 countries will attend the summit to discuss measures for peace, stability, and a new phase of regional security in West Asia.
High-Profile Leaders Attending
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and French President Emmanuel Macron have confirmed attendance.
Preparations by Egypt
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has consulted with Arab, European, and Asian leaders to prepare for the summit. Invitations were extended on behalf of the Egyptian and US presidents, and a document ending the Gaza conflict is expected to be signed.
Conflict Background
Hamas attacks killed around 1,200 people, while Israel’s retaliation claimed over 67,000 lives in Gaza, including many women, children, and elderly.
India’s Stance
India has consistently advocated dialogue, diplomacy, ending hostilities, releasing all hostages, and allowing unhindered humanitarian aid. It also supports talks for a two-state solution.
