India is accelerating its strategic moves. This aims to further strengthen its economy globally. Trade talks with economic powerhouses like the United States and the European Union are progressing fast. Signals now suggest the discussions have entered a decisive phase. The government focuses on agreements that offer long-term benefits. These advantages must extend beyond mere statistics. They must boost India’s industry, investment, and employment.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided updates. He spoke at the weekly media briefing. He noted continuous official-level dialogue on the India-US bilateral trade agreement. He confirmed both nations are actively working towards a fair and balanced deal. This statement follows the visit of US Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer. His visit took place in the second week of December. This was his first trip to India in his new role. It is considered highly significant for the two nations’ trade ties.

Key Issues Resolved in High-Level Meetings

The US delegation met several senior Indian officials. These included Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal. The meetings involved serious discussions on long-pending trade issues. Both sides presented their stances on tariff disagreements. They also discussed market access demands and regulatory hurdles. Further discussions explored new heights of cooperation. These focused on the manufacturing, technology, and service sectors.

Steady, Solid Progress on India–EU FTA

Negotiations for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) are also advancing. This is happening alongside the talks with the United States. Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that dialogue is continuous. He added that both parties remain fully engaged. European Union officials visited India after the 14th round of FTA talks. These talks were held in Brussels in October. Furthermore, the EU’s Trade Commissioner visited India in December. They discussed issues that previously lacked consensus.

Differences Narrowing, Talks Moving Towards Resolution

Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal had previously indicated positive outcomes. He signaled that differences have significantly reduced. This resulted from multi-level meetings between India and the EU. He mentioned ongoing communication. This includes both in-person and virtual mediums.

New Zealand FTA Boosts India’s Confidence

India’s recent Free Trade Agreement with New Zealand is a strong example. It showcases the nation’s evolving trade policy. This deal was completed quickly. It is now viewed as an effective model for future trade agreements. This pact has granted Indian exporters access to new markets. Tariff relief has also increased their competitive edge.
