CBI Challenges Suspension of Life Sentence for Ex-MLA Kuldeep Sengar; Delhi High Court Had Granted Relief

The Unnao rape case received a significant update on Saturday (December 27, 2025). The Supreme Court will hear the CBI petition on Monday. This petition challenges the suspension of the sentence given to convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Chief Justice Suryakant will lead the bench for this important hearing.

Protests Erupt Against High Court Decision

Social activists and politicians protested the bail decision. Yogita Bhayana and Congress leader Mumtaz Patel protested outside Parliament House. Delhi Police detained Yogita, Mumtaz, and several other protesters from the site.

Rahul Gandhi Meets Victim

Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He met the rape case victim and her family on Wednesday (December 24, 2025). The victim and her family presented three demands to the Congress leader. Rahul Gandhi promised to look into the matter. He also assured the victim’s family that they would receive justice.

High Court Suspends Sengar’s Sentence

The Delhi High Court suspended the life sentence of Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Sengar is the former MLA expelled from the BJP. The suspension was ordered on Tuesday (December 23, 2025). The court noted he has already served seven years and five months in jail.

Sengar Challenged 2019 Verdict

Kuldeep Sengar had challenged the December 2019 lower court verdict. He appealed against the decision in the Delhi High Court. Sengar will still remain in jail even if this sentence is suspended. This is because he is also serving a 10-year term. This sentence is for the custodial death of the victim’s father. Sengar has not yet secured bail in that case.
