The atmosphere outside the Supreme Court became tense. This happened before the crucial hearing in the Unnao gang rape case. A large number of women activists demonstrated outside the court. They demanded justice for the victim. Women workers from the Congress party also joined the protest. General public women were also present. Police cited security reasons. They detained all the protesters. They removed them from the location.
Alka Lamba Supports Unnao Victim
Alka Lamba is the National President of Mahila Congress. She reached the Supreme Court supporting the Unnao victim. She alleged that police did not even allow her to step out of her vehicle. Alka Lamba stated, “We have come to support the victim of Unnao. But the police are not permitting us to stay.”
Women Sit on Road with ‘Nari Nyay’ Banners
During the demonstration, women held banners and wore badges. These items read “Nari Nyay” (Women’s Justice). Pushpa Satbir Singh is the President of Delhi Mahila Congress. She was seen protesting while sitting on the road. Police detained her and other women protesters. They were seated on a bus.
Yogita Bhayana’s Statement: Hope for Justice
Women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana spoke to the media. She confirmed that the victim was currently inside the courtroom. She stated, “The victim is fine. And we hope that we will get justice. If the decision given earlier is not correct, the court will change it.”
Statement from Kuldeep Sengar’s Counsel Before Hearing
Before the hearing, the lawyer for convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar spoke. Shashi Tripathi is his name. He said, “We must have faith in the judicial system. Our justice system is good.” Solicitor General Tushar Mehta represented the CBI. He was present in the courtroom during the Unnao gang rape case hearing.
