In a Truth Social post, Trump shared that he looks forward to speaking with his “very good friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming weeks.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that discussions with India will carry on to resolve the “trade barriers” affecting both nations.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump expressed his excitement about an upcoming conversation with his “very good friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the weeks ahead.
“I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks,” Trump posted.
He further added, “I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!”
These statements follow Trump’s earlier praise of Prime Minister Modi, whom he recently described as a “great prime minister.” He also affirmed that the two leaders will “always be friends” despite rising concerns over his administration’s 50 per cent tariff decision on Indian imports.
Responding to Trump, PM Modi said he “deeply appreciates” and “fully reciprocates” the sentiments shared by the US President. Modi also welcomed Trump’s “positive assessment” of bilateral relations, highlighting that India and the United States share a forward-looking, comprehensive, and global strategic partnership.
This warmer tone marks a shift from Trump’s previous remarks, when he claimed the US had “lost” India and Russia to China, while his administration ramped up criticism of New Delhi.
In earlier comments, Trump had even labelled US-India relations a “totally one-sided relationship,” though he noted that India had reportedly offered to cut tariffs “to zero.” Still, he suggested the move may have come “too late.”
At present, India-US ties are navigating their most challenging phase in over two decades, with tensions often playing out publicly through Trump’s social media activity and his strong views on India’s purchases of Russian energy.
