Indian Sikh Pilgrims Depart for Pakistan: Jatha Leaves from Attari-Wagah Border, Know the Reason

Devotees traveling with the Sikh contingent express their immense fortune. They feel blessed to visit the revered Gurdwara Sahib in Pakistan. Words cannot describe their feelings about this pilgrimage.

A large group of Sikh pilgrims, known as a ‘jatha,’ left for Pakistan today, Tuesday (November 4). They departed from the SGPC office amidst the chants of ‘Jaikaaras’ (religious slogans). This contingent will celebrate the birth anniversary, or ‘Prakash Purab,’ of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Nankana Sahib. The group will travel to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border crossing.

This jatha will celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab at Nankana Sahib in Pakistan tomorrow (November 5). The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib is leading this significant pilgrimage. The Sikh devotees will visit various Gurdwaras in Pakistan. They are scheduled to return to India on November 13.

What did Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh of Akal Takht Sahib say?

Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj of Sri Akal Takht Sahib leads this jatha. He congratulated everyone on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab. He mentioned that every Sikh prays daily for the chance to visit separated Gurdwara Sahibs. The prayers of the traveling devotees are being answered today. He further requested that such jathas should continue to go. He urged the Pakistan government to reopen Kartarpur Sahib for the congregation’s darshan (viewing/pilgrimage).

SGPC member Bibi Gurinder Kaur is heading the jatha. Sardar Gurmeet Singh Buhe is serving as the contingent’s Deputy Leader. Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj of Sri Akal Takht Sahib is also accompanying the group. He will be guiding and leading the congregation.

Special Ceremony Held at the SGPC Office

Devotees accompanying the jatha stated their good fortune. They are blessed to visit Gurdwara Sahib located in Pakistan. “They have no words to describe” celebrating Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth place. A special ceremony took place at the SGPC office before the jatha’s departure. The leaders guiding the contingent received special honors at the event. The congregations expressed their overwhelming enthusiasm. They are visiting the historical Gurdwaras in Pakistan for the first time.
