A 31-year-old man from Mira Road who lived in the United States for years before coming back jobless allegedly stabbed two on-duty security guards at a Mumbai construction site. Police arrested him within 90 minutes using CCTV footage. A joint ATS-police probe is now examining whether the attack was a lone act or part of a bigger plot.

Mumbai Man Arrested After Stabbing Two Guards at Construction Site
A 31-year-old Mumbai resident identified as Zaib Zuber Ansari found himself behind bars Monday after allegedly knifing two security guards on duty. The early-morning attack sent shockwaves through the Naya Nagar locality, with police scrambling to make sense of a deeply disturbing motive.
Ansari reportedly walked up to the guards and asked them to recite the ‘kalma’ before pulling out a knife. The two guards Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen were stationed at an under-construction building located behind Wockhardt Hospital. The clock had just crossed 4 am when the horror unfolded.
Both Guards Wounded, Taken to Nearby Hospital
Mishra and Sen suffered serious injuries in the knife attack. Mishra somehow gathered enough strength to walk to the hospital on his own. Sen was less fortunate he lay bleeding until a local resident, Nayab Sheikh, spotted him. Sheikh first escorted Sen to the police station and then rushed him to get medical care. Both are currently undergoing treatment at Wockhardt Hospital.
Police Nab Suspect in Under 90 Minutes
The Mumbai Police acted with remarkable speed. Using CCTV footage from the area, officers tracked Ansari down within just 90 minutes of the attack. He was brought to Naya Nagar Police Station, where a formal case was lodged against him covering serious charges like attempted murder and actively promoting enmity between communities. A Thane court later sent him to police custody until May 4.
ATS and Police Launch Joint Probe
The incident quickly drew the attention of the state Anti-Terror Squad. A joint investigation involving the ATS and the police is now actively underway. Authorities have also made a public appeal asking citizens not to spread rumours and warning that those who push misinformation will face strict consequences.
Investigators have seized Ansari’s mobile phones and other electronic devices. They are closely examining these gadgets to determine whether Monday’s attack was a one-off incident or part of a larger, coordinated conspiracy. Chillingly, certain extremist-linked terms were reportedly found in notes recovered from the accused.
US Return, Joblessness, and Suspected Radicalisation
Early findings paint a picture of a man unraveling after a difficult stint abroad. Ansari had spent several years in the United States but returned to India without securing steady employment. Back home, he lived alone in the Mira Road area and scraped together a living by teaching chemistry through online classes.
Authorities now strongly suspect that Ansari may have been radicalised through content he consumed online a chilling reminder of how digital spaces can turn vulnerable individuals down a dangerous path.
