Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has announced the rollout of four new labour codes in India. These important codes come into effect nationwide starting today. The list includes the Code on Wages 2019 and the Industrial Relations Code 2020. It also covers the Code on Social Security 2020 and the Occupational Safety Code 2020. These new rules replace 29 existing laws to bring necessary reforms. Reports state that these New Labour Codes will simplify the path toward an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Benefits of the New Labour Codes

According to Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s post, all workers will now face a guarantee of timely minimum wages. Youth are assured of receiving proper appointment letters. Women will receive equal pay for equal work along with guaranteed respect. Over 40 crore workers will now have social security coverage. Permanent employees get a guarantee of gratuity after just one year of service. Workers over 40 years old get free annual health checkups. The New Labour Codes promise double wages for overtime work. Workers in risky sectors get a 100% health safety guarantee. The Minister stated that workers will get social justice based on international standards.

Mandaviya further stated that these are not just changes but a historic decision by PM Modi. This decision focuses entirely on the welfare of workers. He added that these reforms are a major step towards a self-reliant India. They will provide new momentum to achieve the goal of a Developed India by 2047.

Many Indian labour laws date back to the pre-independence era between 1930 and 1950. The economy and the world have changed drastically since then. Many global economies have updated their regulations in recent decades. India previously had 29 central laws with fragmented and outdated provisions. The implementation of the four New Labour Codes connects India with modern global trends. Experts say these codes will encourage both workers and industries.
