Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron over the phone on Saturday, where both leaders exchanged perspectives on strengthening India-France relations and stressed the importance of finding an early resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

PM Modi highlighted that their conversation covered major global challenges, with particular emphasis on the continuing war in Ukraine. He underlined the urgent need for peace through dialogue and reaffirmed that both nations remain committed to diplomatic solutions for restoring stability.

Calling the interaction “very good,” Modi explained that the discussion also involved a review of recent progress in strategic cooperation. The leaders reflected on their collaboration across several key sectors, including defence, space exploration, climate action, and advanced technology.

“Had a very good conversation with President Macron. We reviewed and positively assessed the progress in bilateral cooperation in various areas,” Modi stated on social media. He further added, “Exchanged views on international and regional issues, including efforts for bringing an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. The India-France Strategic Partnership will continue to play a key role in fostering global peace and stability.”

President Macron, who recently joined discussions alongside other European leaders during US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, has been actively engaged in the Ukraine issue. The latest call between Modi and Macron came shortly after the French President declared plans at the Paris summit to establish a “reassurance force” in Ukraine. The event, held on Thursday, saw the participation of President Zelensky in person, while several leaders including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined remotely, as reported by France 24.

During their exchange, Modi also expressed gratitude to Macron for agreeing to attend the upcoming AI Impact Summit in India in February 2026. He said he eagerly awaited welcoming the French leader to the event, which is expected to bring global attention to advancements and challenges in artificial intelligence.

Both Modi and Macron concluded their discussion with a commitment to remain in close contact and to continue working together in pursuit of international peace and security. In his message on X, PM Modi once again emphasized that the India-France Strategic Partnership will remain central to global stability and cooperation.
