Speaking after the National Unity Day Parade in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar, PM Modi criticized the Congress, claiming former PM Jawaharlal Nehru hindered the full integration of Kashmir into India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday (October 31, 2025) that Sardar Patel wished to merge the entirety of Kashmir with India, just like other princely states. He asserted that then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru prevented this from happening.
Modi addressed the gathering after the National Unity Day Parade near the ‘Statue of Unity’ in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar. He declared that a decisive fight has been chosen against infiltration, which was disrupting India’s demographic balance.
Sardar Patel Merged Over 550 Princely States
He said Sardar Patel believed people shouldn’t waste time writing history. Instead, they should work hard to create history. Patel completed the seemingly impossible task after independence. He successfully integrated over 550 princely states into the Indian Union.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Sardar Patel’s policies and decisions forged a new history. Modi stated that the idea of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India) was paramount for him. Attacking the Congress, Modi claimed the country and Kashmir paid a huge price for the party’s mistakes in managing this issue.
Attack on Congress Over Kashmir’s Division
He mentioned Sardar Patel wanted to unify all of Kashmir, similar to other princely states. “But Nehruji did not allow his wish to be fulfilled,” Modi asserted. Kashmir was divided; it got a separate constitution and flag. The country suffered for decades due to this Congress blunder.
Modi argued that the nation’s sovereignty was supreme for Sardar Patel. However, following his death, successive governments did not treat national sovereignty with equal seriousness. He listed the mistakes in Kashmir, problems in the Northeast, and the spread of Naxalism-Maoism nationwide. “These all posed serious challenges to the nation’s sovereignty,” he said.
‘Kashmir’s Separation Due to Congress’s Weak Policies’
The Prime Minister stated that governments of that era adopted a spineless approach. They failed to follow Sardar Patel’s policies. He claimed Congress’s weak policies led to a part of Kashmir falling under Pakistan’s illegal occupation. This then fueled state-sponsored terrorism. Kashmir and the country paid a heavy cost. Yet, Congress always bowed before terrorism. “They forgot Sardar Patel’s vision, but we have not,” he added.
The shackles of Article 370 have been broken, Modi declared. Kashmir is now fully integrated into the mainstream. Today, Pakistan and terrorists understand India’s true strength. The world witnessed ‘Operation Sindoor’. It showed India will strike and eliminate anyone who casts an evil eye on the country. “This is Sardar Patel’s India,” he proclaimed.
Government Action Against Naxalism Continues
Highlighting the anti-Naxalism efforts over the past 11 years, Modi said the campaign will continue. It will not stop until this problem is completely eliminated from the country. Before 2014, Maoist terror affected about 125 districts. Today, it is confined to 11 districts. He added that Naxalism persists in only three of those districts.
He also called illegal migrants a serious threat to India’s unity and internal security. He alleged these migrants are seizing our resources and upsetting the demographic balance. This endangers the country’s unity. “Past governments ignored this crucial issue only for vote-bank politics,” he accused.
‘Decisive Fight Against Infiltrators’
The Prime Minister declared that the country has decided to fight a decisive battle against infiltrators. If the country’s security and identity are threatened, every citizen is at risk. On National Unity Day, we must reaffirm our resolve. “We will ensure every illegal migrant living in India is expelled,” he promised.
Slamming the Congress, Modi said the party inherited a ‘slave mentality’ from the British rulers. He stated the country is now erasing every trace of the colonial mindset.
PM Modi’s Allegations Against Congress
Modi questioned the culture of ‘political untouchability’ in the country. “We all know what happened to Sardar Patel and his legacy under Congress rule,” he asked. He also questioned what was done to Babasaheb Ambedkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, Dr. Lohia, and Jayaprakash Narayan, both during and after their lives.
He mentioned the attacks and conspiracies against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Modi accused Congress of removing parts of ‘Vande Mataram’ on religious grounds. He called it an act of dividing society and advancing the British agenda. The Prime Minister claimed the foundation for India’s partition was laid. This happened on the day Congress decided to break and divide ‘Vande Mataram’. “If that sin had not been committed, India’s picture would be very different today,” he concluded.
PM Modi on the Ongoing Language Dispute
Amidst language disputes in some states, the Prime Minister clarified that every language is a national language. There has never been an effort to impose one language on others. He described language as a vital pillar of India’s unity. The country’s hundreds of languages and dialects reflect its open, creative thinking.
Modi explained, “This is why India became such a linguistically rich nation.” He added that our languages have strengthened our identity, like different musical notes. Efforts are being made to promote every Indian language.
Every Child Should Progress in Their Mother Tongue
“We are proud that India has Tamil, one of the world’s most ancient languages,” Modi said. He added that Sanskrit is a reservoir of knowledge. The government wants every child to progress in their mother tongue. Before his address, Modi inspected the National Unity Day Parade. Police and paramilitary contingents participated in the parade.
