K Kavitha faced suspension from her father KCR’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi after she accused cousins T Harish Rao and J Santosh Rao of corruption.

The suspension of Kalvakuntla Kavitha from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has ignited political tremors in Telangana, with her loyalists taking to the streets in protest. Kavitha, the daughter of party chief and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, was expelled on charges of engaging in “anti-party activities,” a decision that has sparked outrage among her supporters.
On Tuesday, scores of Kavitha’s followers assembled outside her Hyderabad residence, chanting slogans of “Jai Jagruthi” to express solidarity with her. Many demonstrators wore scarves adorned with her image, underscoring their loyalty to her leadership and her vision for Telangana.
Kavitha is also the founder of Telangana Jagruthi, an organisation known for its work in cultural preservation, heritage promotion, and youth empowerment. Speaking to the media gathered outside her home, Ravi Rathod, youth vice president of Telangana Jagruthi, denounced the party’s move. “Injustice has been done… The way she has been suspended is absolutely wrong. We condemn this” he said.
The controversy deepened after Kavitha, just a day before her suspension, accused her cousins—senior BRS leader and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao and ex-MP J Santosh Rao—of accumulating vast wealth while allegedly using her father as a scapegoat in the much-debated Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project scam.
Political rivals were quick to seize the opportunity. Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao asserted that Kavitha’s own remarks had laid bare the corruption within the BRS during its tenure. “Her revelations prove how deeply corruption was entrenched in the government. She has directly pointed at her cousins for misleading the then chief minister. This only shows how projects under BRS rule were manipulated and how family feuds erupted while dividing the ill-gotten gains. The people of Telangana must understand how the state’s resources were plundered,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Congress also hit back, dismissing the entire episode as a staged act. Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud labelled the suspension a “scripted drama,” insisting that her accusations against her relatives were part of the same play. “This is nothing new. It is all pre-planned. KCR’s family has collectively exploited public resources, and this episode is just another attempt to distract people from the truth,” he remarked.
