Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit Manipur on Saturday. To ensure his security, the state government has imposed a ban on air guns in Churachandpur district. Violators will face legal action. This will be Modi’s first visit to Manipur after the outbreak of ethnic violence.

PM Modi Likely to Visit Manipur on September 13
According to the Manipur government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the state on September 13. This will be his first visit since the ethnic clashes erupted between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The government has introduced strict security measures for the visit, including a ban on air guns in Churachandpur district. However, there has been no official confirmation of the Prime Minister’s trip so far.
District Magistrate Issues Ban Order
Churachandpur District Magistrate Dharun Kumar issued an order prohibiting the use, possession, or display of air guns in the district. He stated, “Considering the security of the Prime Minister, the use, carrying, or public display of air guns has been strictly banned. Anyone caught violating this order will face immediate action.”
Legal Action Against Violators
The government’s order further mentioned that Churachandpur has been included in the Prime Minister’s tentative itinerary. To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, heavy security arrangements are being enforced. Authorities noted that visible possession of air guns could create panic and pose a threat to safety. For this reason, strict restrictions have been placed on carrying or using such weapons. Officials confirmed that anyone who ignores this order will face legal action. The Superintendent of Police in Churachandpur has been instructed to oversee proper enforcement.
No Official Statement Yet
Speculations suggest that PM Modi could reach Manipur within the next two days. Despite this, no formal statement has been released either from New Delhi or from Imphal. Meanwhile, several high-level meetings have been conducted in the state to review preparations for the visit.
Churachandpur’s Role in Ethnic Violence
Churachandpur is known as the stronghold of the tribal Kuki community. In May 2023, severe ethnic violence broke out between the Kuki and Meitei communities. The unrest forced the Chief Minister to resign and led to the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur. The clashes claimed the lives of over 250 people and left thousands displaced. Modi’s upcoming trip marks his first visit to the state after these violent events.
