Trump’s Renewed Claim on Russian Oil

US President Donald Trump renewed his claim on Saturday, October 25, 2025. He alleged India has fully reduced its oil imports from Russia. Trump called this an important move. He said it is towards a strategic partnership with the United States. India has consistently denied all such previous claims. The nation has clearly stated its oil buying decisions. These are based on national interests, not external pressure.

US Slams Sanctions on Russian Energy Giants

The Trump administration explained the new sanctions. They aim to stop the Russian energy sector from funding its “war machine.” The new economic and financial sanctions target these companies. Sanctions include freezing Rosneft and Lukoil assets in the US. They stop US citizens from any financial dealings with them. The US also urged global partners to keep a distance. Rosneft and Lukoil control about 45% of Russia’s total oil exports. This action is a direct blow to Russia’s economy.

India’s Stance on Crude Oil Imports

Indian Foreign Ministry sources reiterated their stand immediately after Trump’s claim. They confirmed India will continue to buy crude oil from Russia. This is a crucial part of energy security and affordable supply. India argues no country can stop it from buying from a specific seller. This is valid until the United Nations (UN) imposes official sanctions.

An official from India’s Energy Ministry spoke anonymously. They stated their priority is cheap and stable oil for India. “We cannot compromise our interests,” the official said. Trump had previously claimed India would slowly end Russian oil buys. However, current data shows the reality. Russia remains India’s largest crude oil supplier. It has surpassed both Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Trump’s Next Diplomatic Move: Focus on China

During his announcement, Trump also spoke about his future diplomatic plans. He mentioned his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This will take place in South Korea. He hopes for a complete trade agreement during the summit. Trump stated they will also discuss fentanyl and agricultural trade. He noted that the deadly drug is coming from China. It is killing many Americans. This meeting is happening amid high US-China tension. The tension concerns technology curbs, trade imbalance, and raw material supply chains.
