Over 58 lakh existing voters have been removed from the 2026 draft list. Reasons include death, relocation, duplication, and missing status.

List of Deleted Voters Now Public
The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal published the deleted names list. This list is part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The list was released on Tuesday for public viewing.
More than 58 lakh (5.8 million) existing voters were removed from the draft list. The reasons vary, including death, relocation, duplication, and missing entries. Sources from the WB CEO confirm the exact number of deleted voters is 5,820,898. This extensive cleanup aims for an updated roll.
How to File Claims and Objections
The Election Commission has provided clear instructions for those affected. “Aggrieved persons can submit their claims in Form 6 along with the declaration form and supporting documents after publication of Draft Roll 2026 during the period fixed for receiving claims and objections,” the portal states. This window for claims and objections closes on January 15, 2026. The final voter rolls will be published after this deadline.
Breakdown of Deletions
Data from WB CEO sources reveals the breakdown of the voters deleted by category. Over 24 lakh voters were marked as ‘dead’ in the draft list. Nearly 20 lakh voters were found to have permanently relocated from their constituencies. Additionally, over 12 lakh voters were marked as ‘missing’. They could not be traced to their registered addresses. Furthermore, 1.38 lakh voters were removed due to duplicate name entries. Other reasons accounted for the removal of over 57,000 names from the list.
Exact Numbers of Removals:
- Dead: 2,416,852 people
- Relocated: 1,988,076 people
- Missing: 1,220,038 people
- Duplicate: 138,328 people
- Others: 57,604 people
- Total: 5,820,898 people
Revision Ahead of Assembly Polls
The release of the draft West Bengal voter list follows the Special Intensive Revision. This revision is crucial before the state assembly polls. The elections are scheduled for early next year. The enumeration phase of the SIR in West Bengal concluded last week on Thursday night.
