India lifted the Asia Cup trophy after beating Pakistan by five wickets in a tense final at Dubai International Stadium.

Congress Questions PM Modi’s Asia Cup Post
Congress on Monday strongly reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post linking India’s Asia Cup win with “Operation Sindoor.” The opposition said it was unfair to treat a cricket match as a battlefield.
After the men in blue defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final on Sunday, PM Modi congratulated the squad on X and compared the game with the military operation.
PM Modi’s Words on Social Media
“Operation Sindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same — India wins! Congrats to our cricketers,” PM Modi wrote on X.
His post instantly went viral, drawing sharp comments from political leaders and fans alike.
Pawan Khera Hits Back at PM Modi
Congress leader Pawan Khera reshared the post and said, “Prime Minister ji, first of all, it is not right to compare a cricket match to a battlefield.”
He added, “Second, if you have made the comparison anyway, then you need to learn from the Indian team that when you are close to victory, good captains do not ceasefire on the orders of any third umpire.”
Border Tensions Overshadowed the Final
The rivalry on the field reflected the strained ties between the two countries. The matches were played in the shadow of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
In fact, Indian players did not shake hands with their Pakistani rivals during the series. Even after clinching the trophy, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team refused to accept it from Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
PCB Chairman’s Complaint Against Team India
Naqvi had earlier complained to the International Cricket Council over India’s conduct after the handshake snub. He also posted controversial content on social media, repeating Pakistan’s claims about shooting down Indian jets during Operation Sindoor. Islamabad has never provided evidence for those claims.
Shashi Tharoor Praises Coach Gambhir
Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor congratulated the team and praised coach Gautam Gambhir.
“As we rejoice at the thrilling victory in the #AsiaCup final last night, let us also pay tribute to the oft-maligned coach, @GautamGambhir and the selectors, who picked the perfect team for the tournament. They are always the first to be blamed when things go wrong, But let’s salute them for getting pretty much everything right this time,” Tharoor wrote.
Suryakumar Yadav Welcomes PM Modi’s Words
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav welcomed the Prime Minister’s post. He said it felt as if the leader himself was taking charge.
“…it felt like he took the strike and scored runs. It was great to see, and when the sir is standing in front, then definitely the players will play freely,” Yadav said.
