The Five Eyes intelligence alliance has issued a stark warning AI-powered cyberattacks are not a distant future threat. The alliance, which brings together the United States, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Australia, says the danger is arriving faster than most people realize.

“AI increases the speed, scale, and complexity of cyber threats. Leading AI models are expected to exceed industry expectations, fundamentally transforming both attack and defense capabilities. The timeline is not years it’s months,” the alliance stated in a joint declaration published on the Australian government’s official website.

Governments and Businesses Must Act Now

The alliance is not just raising alarms it is issuing direct instructions. Nations and corporate leaders must isolate their operating systems wherever possible. They need to speed up the patching of known software vulnerabilities. They also need to tighten access controls around critical infrastructure systems.

Interestingly, the alliance also recommends using AI tools to prepare proactively for cyberattacks essentially fighting fire with fire.

“Cyber risks can no longer be treated as purely technical problems. It is a core business risk and a leadership responsibility,” the joint statement stressed.

The warning comes amid a broader wave of concern over next-generation AI models. In June 2026, the Trump administration blocked foreign access to Anthropic’s most advanced AI models Mythos 5 and Fable 5. The decision followed a troubling revelation by Amazon executives, who informed US authorities that their engineers had prompted the Fable 5 model into disclosing information that could potentially enable serious cyberattacks.

The disclosure alarmed the Trump administration raising red flags about national security. US authorities launched an immediate investigation and concluded that the most effective way to contain the risk was to cut off foreign access to the tool entirely.
