Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha

On September 15, the Qatari government is hosting an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha following the Israeli attack. Ministers from across the Muslim world have started arriving in the capital ahead of the high-level meeting scheduled for Monday. Before the official summit, representatives of member states held preparatory discussions on Sunday to finalize the agenda.

Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on Saturday that the Monday summit will debate a formal resolution addressing the Israeli assault on Qatar. The draft of this resolution is being prepared during Sunday’s ministerial discussions. He emphasized that this summit reflects “the broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with the State of Qatar in the face of Israel’s cowardly aggression and a clear denunciation of Israeli state terrorism.”

Israeli Strikes and Regional Outrage

This emergency summit comes in the wake of Israeli airstrikes on Doha last Tuesday, which were aimed at killing senior Hamas leaders. The attack triggered sharp condemnation not only from Arab countries but also from Western nations, including the United States. With this latest strike, Qatar has become the sixth country in the region recently targeted by Israel, following Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen.

Qatar Preparing for a Collective Response

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani declared after his meeting with former US President Donald Trump in New York on Friday that Qatar is ready to deliver a united response to the aggression that has endangered the entire region.

Qatar has long served as a mediator in regional conflicts, particularly in efforts to end Israel’s war on Gaza and to maintain regional stability. However, Israel’s attack has now jeopardized those peace initiatives. The upcoming summit may bring a significant decision on Israel’s diplomatic relations, with the possibility of severing all forms of ties.

Global Media Attention on the Doha Summit

The importance of this emergency summit can be gauged by the global media interest it has drawn. More than 200 journalists and media professionals from regional and international outlets have arrived in Doha to cover the developments. Local reporters, correspondents, and press agencies are also set to provide extensive coverage of this high-stakes gathering.
