President Trump’s Bold Claim

US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday he could end the ongoing Pakistan and Afghanistan tension “very quickly.” Trump made this statement during the signing ceremony for the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement in Malaysia.

Trump stated, “My administration has ended eight wars in only eight months, as you know. We are ending one war every single month. Now only one conflict remains – the Pakistan and Afghanistan dispute – but I will resolve that one very fast.” He noted that recent clashes began between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He trusts the matter will be solved quickly because he knows the leaders of both nations. Concluding his speech, Trump asserted no previous US President could match his administration’s achievements. He said, “Other presidents start wars, we end them—that is the difference.”

Escalating Tensions in Pakistan-Afghanistan

Clashes have recently increased on the Durand Line between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The British government established this 2,611-kilometer-long border. Afghanistan has never officially recognized this border demarcation. Reports suggest Pakistan recently launched drone and fighter jet attacks inside Afghanistan on militant hideouts. In response, Taliban fighters reportedly captured several border posts.

The Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement

Trump was speaking at the signing of the historic peace accord between Cambodia and Thailand. He declared, “We accomplished what people called impossible. This one agreement alone has saved millions of lives.” He added, “This is a historic day for the people of Southeast Asia.” Trump praised the ‘courageous initiative’ taken by both countries’ leaders. He confirmed America played a vital role in finalizing this agreement.

“32-Year-Old Conflict Halted by a Phone Call”

Trump detailed that border clashes occurred between the two countries earlier this year. However, American intervention successfully stopped the violence. He recalled, “I was in Scotland then and spoke to both leaders on the phone all day. It was incredible how quickly everything was resolved.” Alongside the peace treaty, Trump also announced two new deals. The US signed a trade agreement with Cambodia. It also sealed a critical minerals deal with Thailand. He assured the US will maintain strong trade relations with both nations. This partnership will continue as long as they uphold peace.
