Ebola Crisis Deepens in Congo, Death Toll Hits 304

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo shows no signs of slowing down. The country’s Ministry of Communications confirmed that the death toll has now crossed 300 with exactly 304 fatalities recorded. Total confirmed cases stand at 1,155. The numbers mark a sharp jump from the earlier count of 277 deaths and 1,094 infections.

Active Provinces Remain Under Threat

“The epidemic remains active in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu with 1,155 confirmed cases and 304 deaths,” the ministry’s bulletin stated. The case fatality rate climbed one percentage point compared to the previous update. It now sits at a troubling 26.3% meaning more than one in four infected patients have died.

WHO Declares Ebola Outbreak a Global Emergency

The World Health Organization stepped in with a stark warning. It officially declared the Ebola outbreak in DRC and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern. WHO assessments place the regional risk of virus spread as high putting neighboring nations on high alert. The declaration signals an urgent call for coordinated global action to contain further spread.
