MSF Sounds the Alarm on North Kivu

Doctors Without Borders issued a stark warning about the Ebola outbreak in North Kivu. The aid group said case numbers have jumped sharply across the Congolese province. In its statement, the group described the situation bluntly. “The spread is out of control,” the statement said.

Nearly 40 Percent of New Cases Come From This Province

North Kivu now accounts for almost 40 percent of all new confirmed Ebola cases in Congo. This single province drives a huge share of the country’s current outbreak. Health workers call the trend deeply worrying.

A Fast Moving Epidemic Since April

The Ebola outbreak in DR Congo began in April this year. Officials have confirmed 8,603 cases since the outbreak started. Sadly, 4,148 patients have died from the virus so far.

WHO Calls It the Deadliest Outbreak Yet

In early September, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus addressed the crisis directly. He called the DR Congo Ebola epidemic the fastest growing outbreak in history. Tedros also warned that some transmission chains remain completely unknown to medical teams.
