France’s next presidential election will take place on April 18 and May 2, 2027, according to sources cited by the French newspaper Le Figaro. The announcement is expected to be officially confirmed at a weekly cabinet meeting.

France has set the stage for its next presidential election. The country will head to the polls on April 18 and May 2, 2027, French newspaper Le Figaro reported Tuesday, citing informed sources.
“The 2027 presidential election will be held on Sunday, April 18 and May 2,” the publication stated.
The dates will receive official confirmation on Wednesday. This will happen at the government’s routine weekly cabinet council meeting. France holds its presidential votes in two rounds. The second round falls just 12 days before current President Emmanuel Macron’s term officially ends.
Macron himself cannot run in the 2027 France presidential election. He has already served two consecutive terms as the French president, making him constitutionally ineligible.
The 2027 France presidential election is set to be one of Europe’s most-watched political events. France is a founding member of the European Union. A leadership change in Paris could shift the EU’s political direction significantly.
