Trump Embarks on Middle East Peace Mission
US President Donald Trump left late Sunday for visits to Israel and Egypt. He will attend the Gaza Peace Agreement signing ceremony in Egypt, celebrating the ceasefire and release of hostages. Trump will also co-chair the Gaza Peace Summit alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The agreement is viewed as a historic step toward ending the two-year-long Israel-Hamas conflict. Before heading to Egypt, Trump will meet Israeli leaders in Jerusalem.
‘A Very Special Moment,’ Says Trump
Departing amid light rain, Trump described his Middle East visit as a very special moment. He is accompanied by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Chief John Ratcliffe. Trump noted that the Gaza ceasefire and hostage-release agreement “has brought the war to an end.”
During a media interaction aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “This will be a very special time. Everyone is excited about this moment.”
When asked if he believed the Israel-Hamas conflict was truly over, Trump replied, “The war is over.”
Global Leaders Join the Peace Effort
Highlighting the importance of his trip, Trump added, “This is a remarkable event. Usually, one side celebrates and the other doesn’t, but this time, everyone is thrilled. It’s an honor to be part of it.”
He continued, “Jews, Muslims, and Arab nations — everyone is happy. After Israel, we will go to Egypt to meet powerful and wealthy leaders who are also part of this deal.”
UK Announces Aid Package for Gaza
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is also attending the Egypt summit and will announce a £20 million humanitarian aid package for Gaza. He shared this on social media, explaining that the fund will help restore water, sanitation, and healthcare in Gaza.
This assistance is part of a £116 million commitment to Palestinian aid for 2025.
Israel-Hamas War That Began in 2023
The Israel-Hamas conflict began on October 7, 2023, resulting in devastating loss of life. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry and various reports, over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 170,000 injured.
The initial Hamas attack claimed over 1,100 Israeli and foreign lives. Two years of war have left Gaza in ruins. Thousands of displaced Palestinians are returning to their destroyed homes.
A UN report from October 2025 states that Gaza’s reconstruction could take generations.
