President Emmanuel Macron will host Lebanese PM Nawaf Salam on Tuesday. Macron aims to reinforce support for the fragile Israel-Hezbollah truce. This meeting follows the recent tragic death of a French peacekeeper in Lebanon.

High-Stakes Meeting at the Élysée
French President Emmanuel Macron will welcome Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Élysée Palace this Tuesday. Macron plans to voice strong support for the current Israel-Lebanon ceasefire. Both nations have recently traded accusations regarding various truce violations.
A Fragile Peace Under Threat
The ceasefire officially started last Friday but remains incredibly unstable. The UN Security Council recently condemned a Saturday attack that killed a French peacekeeper. All 15 members demanded that the culprits “be brought to justice without delay.”
Macron Blames Hezbollah for Violence
Macron and UN officials pointed to the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah for the fatal attack. During the 5:30 pm meeting, Macron will “reaffirm his commitment to strict respect for the ceasefire.” He also backs Lebanon’s right to control its own territory.
Diplomatic Efforts and Rising Death Tolls
The leaders will hold a press conference after their discussion. Meanwhile, Lebanon and Israel plan to hold direct talks in Washington this Thursday. Recent reports indicate that 2,387 people died in Lebanon during the last six weeks of war.
