A drone sighting near Munich’s major airport brought all flights to a halt Saturday morning but operations quickly returned to normal after authorities cleared the area.

Munich Airport one of Germany’s busiest travel hubs briefly shut down Saturday morning after reports emerged of a possible drone in the vicinity. Flights were grounded as a precautionary measure while the situation was assessed. The airport has since reopened and returned to full operations.
“After a temporary closure, Munich Airport is open again. Previously, its operations were suspended following the detection of a drone,” German outlet Focus Online reported.
Drone Sighting Triggers Immediate Shutdown
The incident unfolded early Saturday morning. Authorities acted swiftly halting all incoming and outgoing flights the moment a drone was spotted near the airport perimeter. No further details about the drone’s origin or operator were immediately available.
Drone sightings near airports have become a growing security concern across Europe. Even brief incursions can force airports to ground all traffic disrupting hundreds of flights and thousands of passengers in minutes.
Flights Resume After All-Clear Given
After a thorough assessment of the situation, Munich Airport lifted the suspension and resumed normal operations. The duration of the closure and the number of affected flights were not immediately disclosed.
Munich Airport ranks among the top airports in Europe by passenger volume. Any disruption even a short one ripples quickly through connecting routes across the continent.
The incident comes just a day after another drone was discovered in northern Romania, highlighting a pattern of unmanned aerial vehicle activity near sensitive European infrastructure.
