Reacting soon after the Nobel Peace Prize announcement, Putin said Trump had done much for peace, citing “the Middle East as a fine example.”

Putin Criticizes Nobel Committee for Skipping Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on Friday about the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s choice to give the Peace Prize to Venezuela’s María Corina Machado instead of former US President Donald Trump. Trump had actively campaigned for the honor with strong backing from his party and some nations, including Russia.
Putin remarked that Trump’s work for peace deserved attention, saying, “The Middle East is a good example.” He referred to the recent ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, which began after both sides reached an agreement on Thursday.
‘Prestige of the Nobel Prize Has Declined,’ Says Putin
Putin expressed disappointment with how the Nobel Committee selects its winners. “The prestige of the prize has largely been lost,” he said, suggesting that some past winners had little to do with peace efforts. However, he added cautiously, “I don’t know whether he’s (Trump) worthy of it or not.”
Maria Corina Machado Wins the Peace Prize
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado received this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Committee said she was honored “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and her struggle to achieve a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
White House Responds to the Decision
Reacting to the announcement, the White House praised Trump’s peace efforts. “President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives,” the Communications Director wrote on X. The statement added, “He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with his will.”
