Trump confirmed he has already met both Putin and Zelensky, adding that peace talks could soon take place. He also expressed sorrow over Russia’s recent attack on Kyiv.
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a number of prominent European leaders will soon be arriving in the United States with the intention of holding discussions aimed at finding a resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. According to Trump, the leaders are expected to land in America at different times, either on Monday or Tuesday. He made these remarks while addressing the media after returning from the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York.
Trump, however, refrained from disclosing the exact names of the leaders who will be visiting Washington. He emphasized that the primary objective of the European delegation is to work toward peace, and conversations will be centered around that goal. The White House, on its part, has not released any official statement regarding this development. Trump further stated that he is preparing to hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.
When asked about the recent Russian aerial strike on Ukraine’s capital city, Trump responded with disapproval. “I am not happy with this situation,” he remarked. On Sunday, Russia launched drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers building in Kyiv, leading to the deaths of three people, including a child. Expressing grief over the incident, Trump noted that such escalations only underline the urgency of peace efforts.
The American President also expressed hope that the war between Russia and Ukraine would not drag on much longer. “We will solve this issue soon,” he assured. Although this is not the first time Trump has voiced optimism about an early end to the conflict, concrete outcomes from previous dialogues have yet to materialize. With anticipation now mounting, global attention is fixed on the upcoming arrival of European leaders in Washington and the discussions that will follow.
Reflecting on his prior engagements, Trump reminded reporters that he had met with President Putin on August 15 in Alaska and, just days later, on August 18, held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. On the same day, European leaders had also gathered in Washington for consultations. Following those meetings, Trump had hinted that both Zelensky and Putin were willing to engage in direct dialogue aimed at halting the war. However, he clarified that no date has yet been finalized for such a meeting between the two wartime leaders.
