Trump brushed off fears of an Iran link after a gunman was caught at the White House correspondents’ dinner and vowed the incident would not stop him from winning the Iran war.

A dramatic shooting incident unfolded at the annual White House correspondents’ dinner in Washington on Saturday night. President Donald Trump walked away unharmed. Security forces swiftly caught the suspect and took him into custody.
Trump speaks out after the scare
When reporters asked Trump whether the attack was tied to the ongoing US-Iran war, he gave a direct answer – “I don’t think so.” He also made his position clear: “This incident won’t deter me from winning the Iran war.”
Trump called the shooter a “lone wolf” and a “would-be assassin.” He also bluntly described the suspect as “a whack job.” Before facing reporters at the White House, Trump posted on Truth Social saying he had “quite an evening.” He added that he insisted to “let the show go on” despite the chaos. Trump shared CCTV footage of the suspect running past security perimeters and photos of him being pinned to the ground.
Secret Service steps in fast
The moment shots rang out at the Hilton hotel venue, the Secret Service and National Guard moved instantly. They rushed Trump out of the event without hesitation. First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were all present and none were injured.
Trump publicly praised the Secret Service for their quick response. He confirmed a full investigation is currently underway. He also revealed the suspect came from California and that police are now searching his residence there. Trump added that the dinner would be rescheduled at a later date.
What’s going on in the US-Iran war?
Meanwhile, the US-Iran conflict has hit a tense new phase. Trump abruptly cancelled envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s peace-talk trip to Pakistan. He said there was no point “sitting around talking about nothing.”
Trump explained his frustration clearly “They gave us a paper that should have been better and interestingly immediately, when I cancelled it, within 10 minutes, we got a new paper that was much better.” He told his team they hold “all the cards.” He said Iran can call them anytime but he refused to keep sending his team on long, fruitless trips. “We haven’t thought about it yet,” he said, when asked whether hostilities would resume after the cancellation.
