Trump Says Iran Is Desperately Chasing a Peace Deal

Iran claims to want peace with Washington, but Donald Trump says the documents Tehran sends don’t match what was actually agreed upon creating a back-and-forth that is stalling negotiations.

Iran’s Desperate Bid for a Deal With Washington

Iran desperately wants to sign a peace deal with the United States or so President Donald Trump says. But there’s a catch. Every time both sides inch toward agreement, Iran allegedly sends over paperwork that has nothing to do with what was discussed.

Trump made this claim in an interview published Monday by Fortune magazine. He did not hold back.

“They all the time are screaming. One thing I can say they are dying to sign a deal. But they make a deal, and then they send you a paper that has nothing to do with the deal you made. I say: ‘Are you crazy?'” Trump told Fortune.

Oil Prices and Inflation Add More Pressure

The US-Iran conflict is not just a diplomatic headache. Trump himself acknowledged in the same interview that the ongoing standoff with Iran and the resulting spike in oil prices is making it harder to fight inflation back home.

Rising oil costs are squeezing American households. They are also putting pressure on the Federal Reserve’s timeline for cutting interest rates further.

“You can’t really look at the numbers until the war is over,” Trump said bluntly.

Tehran Responds Through Pakistan

On the same Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that Tehran had already handed Washington its position. This came as a response to American remarks and adjustments made to an Iranian draft proposal for resolving the conflict.

Baghaei explained that despite Washington publicly rejecting Iran’s original draft Tehran received a fresh set of proposals through Pakistan, which is acting as the intermediary in this back-channel dialogue. Iran studied those proposals carefully and sent its own response back to the US side.

The ball, it seems, is back in Washington’s court.
