Trump Leaves Door Open on Vance’s Political Future

US President Donald Trump suggested that Vice President JD Vance may choose not to enter future presidential elections. He added that there is still no clear picture of who might eventually run for the country’s top office.

Speaking to reporters, Trump addressed questions about his running mate’s political plans. He made clear that nothing has been decided yet, either for Vance or for anyone else eyeing the White House.

What Trump Actually Said

Trump did not rule anything in or out. He described ongoing talks with Vance but stressed that the field remains wide open.

“We are discussing a number of issues with him (Vance – Ed.), but we’ll see what happens next. No one knows who is going to run. There could be many candidates perhaps a great many. Or, it’s possible that no one will run at all. He might not run, either. I don’t know who will participate in the (next presidential – Ed.) election.”

His comments suggest the Vance presidential bid is far from confirmed. Trump framed the situation as genuinely uncertain rather than settled behind closed doors.

A Pattern of Mixed Signals

This is not the first time Trump has avoided fully backing Vance as his successor. Reports from late May indicated Trump was unsure whether Vance truly fit that role.

Taken together, these remarks point to lingering doubts inside Trump’s inner circle. The eventual list of 2028 presidential contenders, including whether Vance joins it, still looks genuinely open.
