Trump Shuts Down Talk of Firing Pentagon Chief Hegseth

President Donald Trump said he is not thinking about removing Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth. He stressed that Hegseth is doing an excellent job in his role.

“No, I think he (Hegseth – Ed.) is doing a very good job.” — Trump told reporters when asked about alleged plans to push Hegseth out.

Report Sparked Speculation About Hegseth’s Future

Earlier on Wednesday, CBS News reported that Trump had been discussing Hegseth’s position with his advisers. The network cited sources familiar with the matter.

According to that report, the talks come after Republicans suffered losses in the midterm congressional elections. Questions had been raised about whether Hegseth should stay on as Pentagon chief.

Trump’s comments to reporters appear to put that speculation to rest for now, with the president publicly backing his Pentagon chief’s performance.
