US Central Command Insists Ceasefire Is Still On
The United States military says its ceasefire agreement with Iran remains firmly in place even after American forces launched fresh strikes on Iranian territory. The US Central Command confirmed the development to reporters on May 26, 2026.
“Central Command continues to provide force protection for deterrence under the active ceasefire regime,” military officials stated in response to a press inquiry.
Strikes Hit Missile Sites and Naval Vessels
The command openly acknowledged carrying out strikes on missile launcher positions and speedboats located in southern Iran. The strikes raised immediate questions about the fragile truce but Washington insists the ceasefire framework has not collapsed.

How the Conflict Unfolded
The United States and Israel began striking targets inside Iran on February 28. The military campaign caused more than 3,000 casualties on Iranian soil. Washington and Tehran jointly announced a ceasefire on April 8 bringing the active bombardment phase to a halt.

Peace Talks in Islamabad Went Nowhere
Subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad failed to produce any concrete outcome. No fresh outbreak of large-scale hostilities was officially reported following those talks. However, the United States quietly launched a naval blockade of Iranian ports a significant escalation in economic pressure on Tehran.
