Secret US Pact Led to Deadlock

Pakistan-Afghanistan peace talks in Istanbul collapsed. The four-day negotiations ultimately broke down. Reports show the real reason was a secret agreement. This pact allowed US drone strikes from Pakistani soil. Indian intervention was not the true cause of the deadlock.

Afghan Demands and Pakistani Admission

Afghan negotiators demanded a written guarantee from Pakistan. They wanted an end to Afghan airspace violations. They also sought a halt to foreign drone flights over their territory, according to TOLO News. In return, Kabul promised to stop anti-Pakistan groups. This includes the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). They would prevent these groups from operating across the border.

However, the talks failed completely at a crucial point. The Pakistani delegation reportedly admitted to a foreign country running drone operations from their area. TOLO News later confirmed the foreign country was the United States.

Details of the Pakistan-US Agreement

The Afghan outlet’s report mentioned this was the first time Pakistan admitted the US drone deal during the talks. They also claimed they could not break the agreement. Under Donald Trump’s leadership, Pakistan strengthened defence cooperation with the US. Meanwhile, Trump demanded the Taliban return the Bagram Airbase to the US. He warned of severe consequences if they refused.

Pakistan Blames India for Failure

Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, accused India of sabotaging the negotiations. He told Geo News that New Delhi controls the “puppet show” happening in Kabul. Afghan media noted Asif failed to explain his delegation’s sudden change. This change followed a phone call confirming Pakistan’s inability to stop US drones.

Afghan journalist Tamim Bahiss wrote on X about the admission. He said Pakistan admitted signing a deal with a foreign nation. This deal permits drones in its airspace. The drones are for surveillance and potential attacks inside Afghanistan. Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid issued a stern warning. He stated any further Afghan airspace violation will be reciprocated.
