Washington is ready to end its maritime siege on Iran Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the Strait of Hormuz must reopen first, or there is no deal on the table.

Rubio Lays Down the Strait of Hormuz Ultimatum
Washington has made its position crystal clear the United States will end its naval blockade of Iran the moment Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz. Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered this blunt message during a Senate hearing on June 2. He left no room for ambiguity.
“If they end this, we will lift the blockade,” Rubio told senators directly.
Free Passage Through Hormuz Is America’s Top Priority
Rubio stressed that safe and open navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains a core American demand in ongoing negotiations with Iran. He called the strategic waterway a passage that “must be opened immediately.” Until Tehran complies with that single non-negotiable condition, the US naval blockade stays firmly in place, he added.
A Conflict That Began in February And Never Truly Ended
The US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian territory on February 28 of this year. Those attacks killed more than 3,000 people. Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire on April 8 but the calm proved short-lived. Follow-up negotiations held in Islamabad collapsed without any breakthrough. No fresh military strikes have been reported since then however, the United States moved to impose a blockade on Iranian ports shortly after. Mediators are now scrambling to arrange a new round of talks between the two sides.
