Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi exchanged heartfelt congratulations on the 70th anniversary of China-Egypt diplomatic relations a milestone that both nations called a shining model of South-South cooperation, mutual respect, and shared development for the future.

A Historic Milestone Seven Decades in the Making
Seventy years ago, Egypt made a bold diplomatic move it became the very first Arab and African nation to formally establish ties with the People’s Republic of China. On Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi marked this landmark anniversary by trading warm congratulatory messages, reflecting on decades of friendship built on trust and solidarity.
Xi highlighted that across seven decades no matter how the global and regional landscape shifted the two countries never wavered in respecting and supporting each other. He stressed that China and Egypt have always treated one another as equals, maintained deep mutual trust, and reached out in times of need.
A Model Relationship for the Developing World
Xi described China-Egypt relations as a textbook example of friendship, unity, and collaboration between developing countries. He called it a benchmark not just for bilateral ties, but for how China engages with both the Arab world and the African continent as a whole. The relationship, he said, keeps advancing steadily toward building a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era.
Both countries carry the legacy of ancient civilizations and as key members of the Global South, Xi said they must draw wisdom and strength from that shared history. He urged both sides to pursue peace, development, cooperation, and justice goals that feed directly into building a community with a shared future for humanity at large.
Xi Pledges Stronger Ties Going Forward
Xi made clear that he takes the growth of China-Egypt relations very seriously. He said he stands ready to work closely with Sisi using this 70th anniversary as a fresh starting point to carry forward their traditional friendship. His vision focuses on strengthening exchanges and cooperation across multiple fields, while pushing bilateral ties toward greater strategic depth, stronger development synergy, and broader international clout. The ultimate aim, he said, is to bring real, tangible benefits to both peoples and to contribute meaningfully to peace and development across the region and beyond.
Sisi: Shoulder to Shoulder Through History
Egypt’s president echoed the warm sentiment wholeheartedly. Sisi said that Egypt and China have stood shoulder to shoulder through various historical periods and that under the joint guidance of their leaders, Egypt-China relations have sustained steady, positive growth over the past 70 years.
Sisi applauded the significant achievements already made in bilateral ties. He voiced hope for further progress and called on both sides to jointly build a more stable multipolar world one with greater capacity to tackle global challenges, so that all nations can share in the fruits of comprehensive development and jointly realize peace and security.
Premier-Level Congratulations Also Exchanged
The anniversary did not stop at the presidential level. Also on Saturday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and his Egyptian counterpart, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, exchanged their own congratulatory messages adding another layer of warmth to the occasion.
Li expressed China’s clear willingness to work alongside Egypt to follow through on the important consensus already reached by their two heads of state, accelerate high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and deepen exchanges across multiple fields. The goal, he said, is to ensure steady growth of the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership delivering real benefits to both peoples.
Madbouly, for his part, noted that over the past 70 years, Egypt-China relations have made remarkable progress and that bilateral cooperation has reached unprecedented levels. Egypt, he said, looks eagerly forward to deepening cooperation with China especially in the fields of economy, science, and technology so as to generate meaningful benefits for both friendly nations and their peoples.
