Jaishankar stated that the world needs to have a “constructive and cooperative” approach towards trade.

During the BRICS summit held virtually on Monday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that global economic practices should remain fair, transparent, and designed to serve the collective good. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that international systems create opportunities for every nation rather than favoring select groups or individuals.
Speaking at the online meeting, Jaishankar noted that global trade requires a sustainable framework that encourages equality and cooperation. He said that the world must embrace a “constructive and cooperative” approach towards trade, which promotes long-term balance instead of short-term gains. Stressing the need for inclusivity, the minister underlined that fair economic practices will help strengthen mutual trust among countries and bring stability to the international system.
Jaishankar’s remarks at the BRICS platform reflected India’s consistent stance that economic order should not be exploitative but must work for shared prosperity. His statement also reinforced the belief that transparency and fairness in global dealings will create conditions that benefit both emerging and developed economies. With this message, he urged nations to commit themselves to collective responsibility, encouraging progress that supports not just regional but also global growth.
