According to preliminary information, the fire reportedly started following a blast in the air conditioner’s compression unit

A tragic fire claimed the lives of three family members and their pet dog on Monday in Faridabad’s Greenfield locality after an explosion in an air conditioner unit triggered the blaze. The flames, originating from the AC compressor, caused thick smoke that spread rapidly through the building.
The incident occurred around 3:30 am while the family was asleep on the second floor of a rented four-storey structure, a senior police official informed PTI.
Inside the house at the time were four individuals. Among them, Sachin Kapoor (49), his wife Rinku Kapoor (48), and their 13-year-old daughter Sujjain, along with their dog, lost their lives. The fourth member of the household survived but suffered severe fractures in both legs.
Authorities said the heavy smoke engulfed the entire building, including the second floor where the family was resting. The victims attempted to flee toward the rooftop, but the exit door was locked, trapping them inside. This led to suffocation, which proved fatal for the three members and their pet.
Investigators suspect the fire erupted due to a short circuit in the AC system, which then resulted in the compressor explosion.
In a similar incident earlier in August, a major fire broke out at Hansi Gate in Haryana’s Bhiwani. The blaze occurred around 2:30 am on August 10 and reportedly began due to a short circuit. Several shops, including those selling school bags, were gutted, and merchandise worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed, according to the Fire Department.
