Hong Kong Holds On To Its Top Spot

Hong Kong has once again claimed the title of the world’s freest economy. The ranking comes from the Economic Freedom of the World 2026 Annual Report. The Fraser Institute released the report on Tuesday. This latest result confirms the city’s long standing reputation for open markets.

Strong Scores In Trade And Regulation

The report measures economies across five main categories. Hong Kong finished first in freedom to trade internationally. It also placed second in the regulation category. These results point to the city’s consistently open and well managed business climate.

Officials Welcome The Recognition

A spokesperson for the HKSAR government responded to the findings. The report, they said, confirms Hong Kong’s standing as the freest economy in the world. It also highlights the city’s open, efficient and fair business environment.

Low Taxes And Open Trade Keep Investors Coming

Global trade tensions and economic uncertainty continue to grow. Despite this, Hong Kong stays firmly committed to its free port status. The city also keeps its zero tariff policy and its simple, low tax system in place. Together, these policies offer investors a secure, stable and predictable place to do business. The spokesperson said this approach gives entrepreneurs around the world a fair, internationalized environment to grow their ventures.

Backing From The Mainland Strengthens Hong Kong’s Position

The spokesperson added that China remains committed to high standard, two way opening up. The mainland continues to make breakthroughs in technological innovation. This makes it a major stabilizing force for global economic growth. Under the One Country, Two Systems framework, Hong Kong receives strong support from the mainland. The city also keeps close ties with the rest of the world.

Northern Metropolis Plan Signals More Growth Ahead

Looking forward, the HKSAR government plans to work closely with all parts of the community. Officials aim to boost Hong Kong’s role as the city’s well known four centers and one hub. The government will also speed up development of the Northern Metropolis project. These steps aim to boost social and economic growth across the city. They should also create new opportunities for local businesses, residents, investors and talent worldwide.
