IRGC Strikes Al-Azraq: Jordan’s Key US Military Hub
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps the IRGC declared on Wednesday that its aerospace forces destroyed several American MQ-9 Reaper drones during a major strike on a US military base in Jordan. The attack, carried out as part of the sixth wave of a broader offensive, marks a sharp escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and US-Israeli forces in the region.
What the IRGC Claims Hit and What Got Destroyed
Earlier, the IRGC had already stated its forces targeted the Al-Azraq air base in Jordan specifically hitting locations housing American F-18 fighter jets, a residential building, and an equipment storage facility. The latest announcement goes further.
“In the sixth wave of Operation Nasr-2, the aerospace forces of the IRGC struck the American base of Al-Azraq in Jordan destroying hangars of F-15, F-16, and F-35 fighters and eliminating a number of US Army MQ-9 drones,” read the official IRGC statement, as cited by the IRNA news agency.
Operation Nasr-2 A Multi-Wave Offensive
The Al-Azraq strike is part of a broader multi-wave military campaign Operation Nasr-2 that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have been conducting against American and allied military positions across the Middle East. The sixth wave signals the operation continues with no signs of slowing down.
The MQ-9 Reaper one of the most advanced American combat drones carries out surveillance and precision strikes. Losing even a handful of these drones would represent a significant material blow to US operations in the region.
