Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a swift retaliatory strike against the US military base that carried out an attack on a strategic Iranian island escalating an already volatile standoff between Washington and Tehran, as both sides trade blows and peace talks remain deadlocked over Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s IRGC Fires Back Targeting the US Base Behind the Sirik Island Strike
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commonly known as the IRGC wasted no time after a US military strike hit Iranian territory. The guards launched a direct retaliatory attack on the American air base responsible for the assault.
“American forces struck a communications tower on Sirik Island. The IRGC’s Aerospace Force immediately hit the US air base from which that attack was launched,” a statement from Iran’s Mehr news agency confirmed.
Iranian military officials declared all their designated targets were eliminated in the counterstrike.

IRGC Warns Washington of a Far Larger Response
Beyond just striking back, the IRGC issued a pointed warning to the United States any future act of aggression would trigger a far more powerful and damaging response from Tehran.
The warning lands at a tense moment. Over the weekend, American forces had struck Iranian radar systems and drone control stations. US Central Command justified those strikes by pointing to what it called aggressive Iranian behavior including the downing of an MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters.
Iran flatly rejected that version of events.
Tehran Says It Shot Down the Drone Over Iranian Waters
The IRGC insisted its forces downed the American drone because it had entered Iranian territorial waters with clear hostile intent not over open international airspace as Washington claimed.
The two sides now hold sharply conflicting accounts of what actually triggered the latest round of violence.
Nuclear Program Remains the Biggest Barrier to Peace Talks
While the military exchanges continue, media outlets have regularly reported on behind-the-scenes negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire or broader peace deal. Those talks have dragged on for several weeks already.
The central sticking point according to the latest reports remains Iran’s nuclear program. Washington is demanding that all highly enriched uranium be removed from Iranian soil entirely. Tehran, however, refuses to accept those terms leaving diplomacy at a standstill even as missiles and drones fly across the region.
